Which Leadership Qualities Are Women Using to Make a Difference in the World?
Gender is still a factor in whether a person is viewed as an influential leader or not. The truth is women are different as leaders – and that’s a good thing! Women tend to use their leadership qualities in a self-reflective way, looking for connection, meaning and purpose. Inclusive leaders recognize that we accomplish more as a community rather than as individuals.
Women business owners reinvest their profits in education, their family and their community. Since these are differences that fly under the radar, traditional ways of measuring economic development and business performance don’t capture transformational benefits such as these. Yet, they contribute greatly to a more open and supportive spirit in today’s business world.
Now, more than ever, it’s vital to develop and enhance leadership qualities within yourself and the next generation of women leaders. Then you can confidently step into your role as a mentor and role model for younger women.
Here are five ways to enhance your leadership qualities…
Ongoing education. Beyond a standard education, women need to be trained in leadership skills such as public speaking, writing, negotiating, conflict resolution, and networking. In addition, NLP training makes you more self-aware, self-regulating and self-confident under the high stress demands of leadership.
Experience life fully. With the world becoming increasingly interdependent and communities become more integrated, exposure to other cultures and ways of thinking is vital. Women leaders must be willing to go beyond what’s comfortable and seek solutions in unfamiliar settings and experiences. Through self-understanding and mindfulness, you can develop the ability to see opportunities everywhere. You can then seize these opportunities by creatively solving problems and innovating new paths.
Mentors and role models. Instead of independently going it alone, women leaders use the Buddy System and seek out supportive mentors and coaches. Look at the top 100 powerful women and you’ll find role models who inspire you. Learn to imitate their admirable qualities such as generosity, courage, and integrity. If they can do it, so can you.
Shift attitudes. From an early age, girls need to know they’re capable of living outstanding lives. Building life long habits for success will help women reach their full potential.
Build relationships. Rather than competing out of ego, women who embody leadership graciously help other women and men to be the best version of themselves. Making an impact on the lives of others allows women to live with purpose.
Women can use qualities such as being approachable, empathetic and nurturing in their roles as leaders. Women leaders excel when they are good listeners, good communicators, visionaries and intuitive, too.
Maybe you don’t want to change the world, but you do dream of making a difference. You want to model leadership qualities for your daughters and other young women in your life.
